$200,000 Long Island Handicap Draws International Field of Twelve
On Saturday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the 58th running of the $200,000 Long Island Handicap. Scheduled to be run at a mile and a half on the turf, the Grade 3 race has drawn a full field of twelve fillies and mares with two additional listed as also-eligible.
Headlining the field at 3-1 on the morning line is Danza Cavallo (FR) who is making her first United States start for trainer Chad Brown . Brown, known for his prowess with international imports, saddled three turf winners at the Breeders’ Cup this year. A three-year-old daughter of Sunday Break (JPN), she has won three of her eleven starts in her native France. She has been training steadily at Belmont Park since the fall and will break from post position five under Irad Ortiz, Jr.
Viva Rafaela (BRZ) looking for first United States stakes win
Second choice at 7-2 on the morning line is Viva Rafaela (BRZ) who will be saddled by Todd Pletcher. A five-year-old daughter of Know Heights (IRE) bred and owned by Stud TNT, she has gone winless from eight starts this year. She was a Group 1 winner in her native Brazil but her lone North American victory came against optional claiming competition. She was last seen finishing third in the Flower Bowl (G1) and will have Joe Bravo aboard from post two.
Hellenistic going for third win in a row
Also in the field at odds of 4-1 on the morning line is Hellenistic for trainer Dermot Weld. Owned by Calumet Farm, the three-year-old daughter of English Channel will be making her stateside debut after competing in Ireland. She has won two of her six starts and finished third three times. She has won her last two races overseas and will have Junior Alvarado aboard from post six. In addition, she will get Lasix for the first time.
