Barbados Has Class Edge in $100,000 Pelican Stakes
On Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs, the featured race is the $100,000 Pelican Stakes. Scheduled to be run at six-furlongs on the main track, the stakes race has drawn a field of eight colts and geldings.
Barbados has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 9-5 for trainer Michael Tomlinson. A four-year-old son of Speightstown, the bay colt has been on the board in seven of his ten starts and is a three-time winner. He was a graded stakes winner as a three-year-old and has been on the bench since finishing twelfth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) in October. Victor Lebron will be in the irons and they will break from post position six.
Fast Flying Rumor trying for fourth straight win
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Fast Flying Rumor for trainer Gerard Bennett. A four-year-old son of West Acre, the chestnut gelding has been on the board in ten of his fifteen starts and is looking for his seventh career victory. He is coming into this race off of three consecutive victories and was last seen winning an optional claiming race at Tampa Bay Downs. Ron Allen, Jr. will be aboard and they will break from post position seven.
Second start off layoff for My Johnny Be Good
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is My Johnny Be Good for trainer Eoin Harty. A four-year-old son of Colonel John, he is a homebred for Casner Racing and has been on the board in six of his eight starts with two victories. He returned to the races last time out off of a twelve-month layoff and was second in an optional claiming race. Manoel Cruz will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
