Belle Gallantey Looking to Kick Off 2015 in Style in $100,000 Affectionately Stakes
On Thursday, Aqueduct will kick off New Years Day with the $100,000 Affectionately Stakes. The mile and a sixteenth contest has drawn a field of seven fillies and mares with two coupled entries.
Belle Gallantey, a multiple Grade 1 winner trained by Rudy Rodriguez, has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 7-5. She has been training steadily since a ninth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) and prior to that race she had won five times in 2014. A nine-time career winner with over $1 million in earnings, she will get a jockey change from Jose Ortiz to his brother, Irad Ortiz, Jr. and she will break from the outside post.
Moment in Dixie trying to break through and get a victory
Second choice at 7-2 on the morning line is Moment in Dixie for trainer James Toner. Bred and owned by Phillips Racing Partnership, the six-year-old daughter of Dixieland Band is trying to earn her first win since July of 2013. She has won three of her nineteen starts and was last seen finishing third in the Go For Wand (G3). She will have Manuel Franco in the irons for the first time and they will break from post position eight.
Well-bred Godolphin entry looks formidable
Kiaran McLaughlin will saddle both Penwith and Divided Attention as a coupled entry for Godolphin Racing at morning line odds of 3-1. Penwith, a four-year-old daughter of Bernardini, is trying to earn the first stakes win of her career after winning three of her nine total starts. Fernando Jara has picked up the mount. Divided Attention, a daughter of A.P. Indy, is trying to rebound after a sixth-place finish in the Comeley (G3) and will have Dylan Davis aboard.
