On Sunday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $200,000 Distaff Handicap. Restricted to fillies and mares, the Grade 3 event will be held at seven furlongs on the main track and has drawn a field of seven.
Cavorting has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 9-5 for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. A four-year-old daughter of Bernardini, she has won five of her nine starts and was a multiple graded stakes winner as a three-year-old. She has been on the shelf since finishing third in the La Brea Stakes (G1) and has been training steadily for her return to the races. Irad Ortiz, Jr. will be aboard and they will break from post position four.
Paulassilverlining a consistent contender at the Big A
Second choice at morning line odds of 2-1 is Paulassilverlining for trainer Michelle Nevin. Bred and owned by Vincent Scuderi, the four-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper has been on the board in nine of her eleven starts and is trying to earn her fifth victory. She was last seen finishing second in the Correction Stakes at Aqueduct. Jose Ortiz will be in the irons and they will break from the rail.
La Madrina looking for breakthrough win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 10-1 is La Madrina for trainer Claude McGaughey, III. A five-year-old daughter of Tapit, she is a half sister to graded stakes winners Verrazano and El Padrino and is trying to earn her first black-type win. She has been freshened since finishing third in a minor stakes race in December and is scheduled to break from post position three under jockey Kendrick Carmouche.
