Eight Entered for the $100,000 Sir Cat Stakes
On Friday, three-year-olds will try their luck on the inner turf in the $100,000 Sir Cat Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. The race will be run one mile and is restricted to horses which have not won a graded stakes on turf. The field consists of eight horses including Preakness (G1) runner Pablo Del Monte who is entered for the main track only.
Top choice on the morning line is Tourist at 8-5. He will break for post number five with Joel Rosario aboard. This son of Tiznow is coming off of back to back wins on turf including an impressive five length score in a first level allowance race at Belmont Park last out. Trained by Bill Mott, Tourist will look to make his first foray into stakes competition a winning one, and keep his win streak intact.
Chad Brown attempting to start Saratoga in style
Second choice at 9-5 is Storming Inti, a chestnut colt by Stormy Atlantic. With three wins, a second, and three thirds in seven starts on the grass this Chad Brown trainee has displayed great consistency over the surface, including a runner up finish in the American Turf (GII) two starts back at Churchill Downs. Javier Castellano, who won at 30% for Chad Brown at Saratoga last year will ride.
Ring Weeked shoots for Triple Crown rebound
Ring Weekend is the lone graded stakes winner in the field, having captured the Tampa Bay Derby (GII) back in March. The 10-1 morning line odds for the Graham Motion trained son of Tapit are reflective of poor finishes in his last two races, including pulling up in the Pegasus (GIII) last month. He will be piloted by John Velazquez, who last summer became Saratoga’s all-time leading jockey.
