Full Field of Twelve Set $500,000 Sands Point Stakes
On Saturday at Belmont Park, the featured race is the $500,000 Sands Point Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies, the Grade 2 will be contested at a mile and an eighth on the turf and has drawn a full field of twelve.
Pangburn tops the field as the favorite at odds of 5-2 but is entered for the main track only. Of the fillies entered for the turf, Sentiero Italia has been tabbed as the top choice at odds of 3-1 for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. A bay daughter of Medgalia d’Oro, she has won three of her five starts and is trying for her second consecutive graded stakes victory after winning the Lake Placid Stakes (G2) last time out. Joel Rosario will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Osaila (IRE) back stateside
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Osaila (IRE) for trainer Richard Hannon. A bay daughter of Danehill Dancer (IRE), she has been on the board in eight of her eleven starts and is a five-time winner. She has been racing primarily in Europe and was third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) in her only North American start last fall. Javier Castellano will be aboard from post nine.
Miss Temple City a consistent contender
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Miss Temple City for trainer Graham Motion. A dark bay daughter of Temple City, she has been on the board in six of her seven starts. After a fourth place finish at Royal Ascot, she came back to run second in the Lake Placid Stakes (G2) and will be trying for her first graded stakes victory. John Velazquez will be aboard from post two as she tries for a breakthrough win.
