Grade 3 Frankel Stakes Looks Completely Wide Open
The $100,000 Grade 3 Robert J Frankel Stakes features a field of 12 fillies and mares set to contest the mile and one eighth event on the turf course Saturday, December 27 at Santa Anita.
Despite drawing post number eleven, Rusty Slipper is the 7/2 morning line favorite for trainer Graham Motion. Rusty Slipper will receive some much-needed class relief after running in back-to-back grade one races in the fall. Those efforts included a third place finish in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive followed by a tenth place finish in the Grade 1 Filly & Mare Turf. In nine career starts, the four year-old daughter of Lemon Drop Kid is a four-time winner with earnings of $155,014.
Other half of uncoupled Motion entry solid
Motion also saddles Lady of Gold (8/1 ML), who exits consecutive runner-up finishes against grade 3 company at Woodbine and Del Mar. Lady of Gold has just two wins in fifteen lifetime starts, but fits in with this group after losing just a half length last out in the Grade 3 Red Carpet to Three Hearts who is also 8/1 on the morning line. If either runner shows slight improvement, they will find themselves in the thick of things once again.
Blingismything improving by leaps and bounds
Blingismything could pull the upset at 12/1 for trainer Eric Kruljac after stretching out nicely from a turf sprint to win a mile and an eighth race on the grass last out versus $62,000 optional claimers. Blingismything will be looking for her third consecutive win.
