Mark Casse has Loaded Pair in $200,000 Arcadia Stakes
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the track will host the 56th running of the $200,000 Arcadia Stakes. The one mile contest, run on the turf, has drawn an international field of nine colts and geldings.
Headlining the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 is Kaigun, a multiple graded stakes winner trained by Mark Casse. A five-year-old gelded son of Northern Afleet, the chestnut has won five of his eighteen starts and was last seen winning the Seabiscuit Handicap (G2) at Del Mar in November. He has been training at Santa Anita since that winning effort and will have Corey Nakatani back aboard. They are scheduled to break from post position four.
Za Approval trying to rebound after flat performance
Also coming out of the Mark Casse barn is the second choice on the morning line, Za Approval, at odds of 3-1. A homebred son of Ghostzapper owned by Live Oak Plantation, the seven-year-old gelding was fourth after a wide trip last time out in the Fort Lauderdale (G2) at Gulfstream Park. He has eight victories to his credit and over $1.2 million in career earnings. Mike Smith will be aboard for the first time and they will break from post position eight.
Edge of Reality a contender on any surface
Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Edge of Reality for trainer Graham Motion. A five-year-old son of Lawyer Ron, he has won six of his eighteen starts and has been successful on conventional dirt, synthetics and turf. He is trying to rebound after finishing eighth and last in the San Gabriel (G2) on the turf last time out. Flavien Prat will remain in the irons and they are slated to break from post position five as he goes for his first win of the year.
